Sun day School First Quarter Lessons 2026

Lesson 1 (8/30)

The lesson this week is “Handmade,” as students study the creation of Adam and Eve. God creates man in His own image with His own hands and breathes in him His own breath. Formed from the dust of the ground, Adam needs more than just animal companionship. So our heavenly Father makes the perfect complement to man, creating woman from Adam’s rib, and places them in the garden.

Lesson 2 (9/6)

Today, we will study God’s covenant with Abram in “A Sign and a Promise.” God reassures Abram of His promise to bless the earth through Abram’s offspring. God changes his name from Abram (“exalted father”) to Abraham (“father of many nations”) and institutes circumcision as the sign of His continued covenant with Abraham. Despite Abraham and Sarah’s advanced age, God promises they will have a son of their own.

Lesson 3 (9/13)

In today’s lesson, “A Laughable Promise,” participants study the birth of Isaac. The Lord and two angels appear to Abraham in human form, promising the birth of a son to Abraham and Sarah within the year. Sarah conceives and gives birth to Isaac, as the Lord fulfills His promise of generations to come and the promised future Offspring—the Savior, Jesus.

Lesson 4 (9/20)

This week, we learn how God provided “A Merciful Substitute.” God had blessed Abraham with the son he had waited for his entire life; yet now God asks the seemingly impossible—sacrifice your son to Me. By faith, Abraham takes Isaac to the mountain, trusting God, who was able to raise his son from the dead. Abraham completes the test, and God provides the sacrifice.

Lesson 5 (9/27)

This weeks lesson is “A Servant’s Mission.” Abraham tasks a faithful servant with finding a wife for Isaac from Abraham’s homeland. The servant prays for a sign and waits at a well outside the city of Nahor. Rebekah appears, offering to draw water for both man and beast—the sign the servant had asked for. Rebekah invites the servant to come to her family home. Having received gifts from Abraham, Rebekah’s family sends her to Isaac with their blessings.   

Lesson 6 (10/4)

The account of Esau and Jacob serves as today’s lesson, “Twin Troubles.” When Isaac is sixty years old, Rebekah gives birth to very different twin boys—Esau and Jacob. Isaac ignores God’s promise to Jacob and favors Esau. Esau’s hunger gets the best of him as he sells his birthright for a bowl of stew. Rebekah enables further deception as she plots with Jacob, her favored son, so that he receives Isaac’s blessing. When Esau vows to kill Jacob, Rebekah sends Jacob away for his own safety.

Lesson 7 (10/11)

Today, we will study Jacob’s family in “A Family Grows.” Jacob experiences love at first sight when he meets Rachel at the well. Welcomed into his uncle Laban’s household, Jacob agrees to work seven years in order to marry Rachel. When the wedding celebration finally arrives, Laban tricks Jacob into marrying Rachel’s older sister, Leah. Realizing the deception, Jacob confronts his uncle, who gives him Rachel’s hand for another seven years of service.

Lesson 8 (10/18)

In today’s lesson, “A Dreamer Rises,” students will learn about how God works good for Joseph. Falsely accused, Joseph finds himself in prison interpreting dreams for Pharaoh’s baker and cupbearer. When the Egyptian pharaoh has troubling dreams, God empowers Joseph to explain the visions. Pharaoh appoints him to the second highest position in the land, and Joseph manages the harvest to endure the coming famine.

Lesson 9 (10/25)

As we gather today, we will study “A Family Reunites,” as God helps Joseph forgive. Joseph’s siblings journey to Egypt hoping to find food for their family. Failing to recognize Joseph, the brothers head home with sustenance and supplies. Heeding Joseph’s early warning, the brothers bring Benjamin when returning to Egypt for food. After testing and trying his brothers, Joseph finally reveals himself to his astonished siblings. Joseph relocates all of Jacob’s family to Egypt, promising to care for them.

Lesson 10 (11/1)

“A Basket of Hope” is today’s lesson in which participants explore the birth of Moses. Three hundred years after the death of Joseph, Egypt’s new pharaoh despises the Hebrews. Pharaoh demands greater work output from the Hebrew slaves while seeking to reduce their population through infanticide. Moses’ mother manages to hide baby Moses until he is three months old, when she finally sets him afloat in a basket. Discovered by Pharaoh’s daughter, Moses enters a life of privilege.

Lesson 11 (11/8)

Today, we will study “Signs of the True God,” as student learn more about Moses and the plagues. God guides Moses to release His people from their slavery in Egypt, but Pharaoh proves less than cooperative. A series of plagues—foretold by Moses and sent by God—brings destruction and pain upon the Egyptians but only serves to harden Pharaoh’s heart against Moses and the Israelites.

Lesson 12 (11/15)

“The Passover Promise” is this week’s lesson about God’s establishment of the Passover. God, through Moses, threatens one final plague—worse than any previously experienced. Following God’s instructions, the Israelites make careful preparations for the Passover, marking their doorposts with the blood of a lamb prepared for the feast. The final plague takes place at midnight as all the firstborn throughout Egypt die. The Egyptians hand over their valuables, hastening the Israelites away.

Lesson 13 (11/22)

In today’s lesson, we learn about how God provides “Food from Heaven.” The Israelites arrive in the wilderness with no food, grumbling against Moses and Aaron. God keeps His promise to provide for His people as He daily sends manna (bread) and quail (meat) from heaven for them to gather. The Lord teaches His people to trust as they gather only what they need for one day.

Lesson 14 (11/29)

In today’s “Waterworks” lesson, we learn about how God provided water from the rock. Having moved their camp from the wilderness of Sin to Rephidim, the Israelites face a new challenge—no water. Despite His daily food supply, the people doubt God’s ability to provide water for them and their livestock. Moses cries out the Lord, who instructs him to strike the rock with his staff. Moses does so and water pours out, providing all that the people need.
